    The sun is not the first thing that most of us turn to when we want a frosty beverage, but when it comes to generating power from sunlight, maybe it should be.“Beer chilled by the sun” might be the new slogan for Henry Voelcker Beer Distributors in Danville, Pennsylvania. Home to 1,000 different beers in stock, Voelcker’s recently completed a 91.8kW (DC) roof mount PV system.  The system will cover 100% of the electric usage on site and, using the local utility’s virtual metering policies, the excess will be credited to other facilities.  Read more

    When it comes to designing an energy efficient structure, there are few alternatives as powerful as harnessing the sun’s energy.  Especially when the structure is situated in sun soaked Guatemala.   To achieve this feat, the developers of a new Guatemala City shopping center, Arkadia, decided to incorporate solar energy into the design.  Now, the Arkadia shopping center visitors can shop for internationally famous brands, enjoy a movie at the theater, and marvel at one of Central America’s largest solar rooftop systems.     Spring Glen Church first began researching a solar system in 2008.  However, the idea remained dormant for several years. It was only through Connecticut’s new Zero Emission Renewable Energy Credits (ZRECs) program that the project became viable. Unfortunately, during the first year of the ZREC program, Spring Glen Church was not selected due to the overwhelming number of applicants.  But, faith in solar was rewarded in 2014 when the Hamden, Connecticut church’s application was selected for the number one slot in the ZRECs lottery.
